While prices at the supermarket have rocketed in the last two years, prices paid to farmers have not. They are struggling to survive. "I earn less than €1,000 a month", explains one farmer.

"Letting the free market run the food system creates a very unstable situation for farmers and consumers alike. The European Union must stop listening only to big business and multinationals."

The president of PVDA-PTB Raoul Hedebouw was in Brussels to express his solidarity: "It's not right that farmers can't make a living from their job. We support their actions. It's time for an agricultural policy that focuses on farmers, not on agribusiness profits."
